School Holidays - Kids fish for a fiver (Monday to Friday)

School Holidays - Kids Fish for a Fiver (Monday to Friday)

The school holidays are upon us and many parents will be wanting to keep their children entertained over the 6 week period.

We always want to encourage children out into the countryside, so why not bring them fishing for a day at Upper Farm Coarse Fishery just outside Chinnor, Oxfordshire.

It’s probably one of the cheapest things that you can do during the school holidays and for just £5 your child can fish the lake from 8am to 8pm. Under 14's need to be supervised by an adult, so even if you don’t want to fish yourself, you can come down and enjoy the tranquility and beauty of the lake. Why not bring a picnic and make a day of it. The lake also has free fast WiFi so that you can stay connected on social media, post pictures of your child’s catches, or stream TV shows and films from Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc.

If your child has never fished before and would like to give it a try, then we have fishing equipment available for hire from Trinity Outdoors, our onsite fishing and camping shop. Emma who owns the shop can provide some basic instruction and guidance for first timers.

Hire prices

Fishing Rod, Reel and Line
Unhooking Mat
Landing Net
Disgorger

£10 for 1 days hire of the above.

The only extras your child will need if hiring fishing equipment is a pack of hooks (around £2), a float (around £1) and some maggots (£1.99).

Not sure??? Why not pop in and see us for a friendly chat and some advice and take a look around our wonderful facilities.

Environment Agency Permits
All children aged 11 years and under do not need a license to be able to fish.

However, if your child is aged between 12 and 16, then they will require a Junior Trout & Coarse Fishing Permit. These are free of charge for 12 to 16 year olds and can be obtained from the Post Office website. Further details can be found at http://www.postoffice.co.uk/rod-fishing-licence

Hopefully we’ll see you soon.

£150 cash prize - If you land a 20lb+ carp

9th September 2016

We've had loads of reports of anglers getting snapped up on 12lb and 15lb line. There are only so many times that you can blame it on badly tied rigs.

We believe that there must be a 20lb+ carp in the lake and we are putting our money on the line for the first angler that pulls out a 20lb plus fish from the lake at Upper Farm Fishery.

The only caveat to us handing over the cash is that we have to see it, weigh it using our scales and photograph it.

Netting & Electro-fishing 2015

Tuesday 28th July 2015 from 8am (LAKE CLOSED)

I'm delighted to announce that Andrew Ellis from AE Fisheries will be visiting Upper Farm Fishery on Tuesday 28th July 2015 to carry out a fishery consultancy visit. During the visit Andrew will be netting both lakes to take samples of the species, quantities, and weights, and will be checking on fish health and quality.  For those of you who haven't met Andrew before, there isn't much he doesn't know about fishing and fishery management. Andrew last visited us in July 2014. It will therefore be interesting to see how we have (hopefully) improved since taking over the lake, following his basic principles or light, air and food and what our "action plan" will be for the next 6 to 9 months.

It goes without saying that the lake will be closed to all anglers on Tuesday 28th July.

We do however invite you to come along to see the netting process in action and to meet and speak to Andrew.

You'll learn a lot and who knows, the mythical beast of the lake may even be revealed.

Upper Farm Fishery Introduces Annual Season Tickets

22nd November 2014

We are delighted to announce theintroduction of a range of annual season tickets for the upcoming 2015 season.  Designed to provide unlimited fishing there are 3 types of season ticket available:

Midweek Daylight (Mon to Fri)

7 Day Daylight

7 Day 24 Hour

De-silting the lake

26th October 2014

The process of removing the excess build up of silt on the bottom of the lake has begun.  We are adding 1 tonne of Calcium Carbonate to the water which will stimulate the production of aerobic bacteria that will provide ideal breeding conditions for natural lake bacteria to break-down this silt much as a compost heap would. It's a facinating process and if you are interested, I would highly recommend reading the silt removal document by clicking on the link below, which provides much more detail on the benefits and the process.

The end result for Upper Farm Fishery will be a cleaner, better oxygenated lake with a happier and healthier fish population.

Increasing the water depth

14th October 2014

Only a small change, but the drainage pipe next to Peg 7 has been lifted and relaid approximately 6" above the old drainage line.  Over the winter with the expected rainfall, this should provide the lake with an extra half a foot of water depth compared to the previous maximum water level.  In addition, the process of de-silting the lake (planned for later this month) will again increase the total volume of water within the lake.
